LEGALASKALONG
Terms of Service
Last updated: July 23, 2026
Welcome to the product AskAlong / OtterVoice AskAlong (also “Otter-Askalong”; “AskAlong”, “we”, “us”, or the “Service”). These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) describe the rules for accessing and using the AskAlong website, Chrome extension, supporting API, and related features. AskAlong is currently operated by an individual under the product name and is not offered under a separate incorporated company name.
By creating an account, signing in, installing the extension, or using any free or paid feature, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and the Privacy Policy in effect at the same time. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
The Service
AskAlong is a media-understanding and real-time Q&A product for desktop Chrome (Chrome 116+ recommended). After you intentionally enable it, the Service can answer voice or text questions using context from the non-DRM web media you are playing, then resume playback according to your settings.
Phase-one capabilities primarily include media timelines and shared transcription, real-time voice/text Q&A, accounts and allowances, session sync, and Free and Pro monthly subscriptions. Creator Console, Voice Clone creation, and voice-consent management are later-phase capabilities; unless we expressly launch them, any UI preview does not mean they are purchasable or enabled.
We do not support or guarantee DRM-encrypted media, private-meeting interception, capture on payment/medical call pages, Safari/Firefox, or unauthorized voice cloning or impersonation. Availability also depends on the target page’s technology, network conditions, granted permissions, and upstream model status.
Eligibility and accounts
- You must have legal capacity to enter a binding contract in your jurisdiction; minors may use the Service only with guardian consent and supervision.
- You must create and maintain an account via supported Firebase Authentication methods (such as Google or email/password) and keep your information accurate and complete.
- You are responsible for safeguarding your account, devices, and credentials. Activity under your account is treated as yours to the extent permitted by law, except where proven to result from our system security failure.
- Website sign-in relies on server-issued HttpOnly sessions; the extension uses short-lived API tokens. You may not lend, sell, or share accounts, or attempt to bypass authentication, quotas, or security controls.
- We may suspend, limit, or terminate access if we detect violations, risk, legal requirements, or prolonged inactivity.
License and ownership
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service for personal or internal non-commercial learning and research, unless we agree otherwise in writing.
Software, branding, interfaces, documentation, model configuration, shared-timeline infrastructure, and related intellectual property remain ours or our licensors’. These Terms transfer no ownership. You may not reverse engineer, decompile, circumvent technical protections, or bulk-scrape non-public interfaces except where mandatory law allows.
You retain rights you may have in content you lawfully provide (for example question text). To operate, maintain, improve, and secure the Service, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free license to host, process, transmit, display, and create technical derivatives (such as transcripts, summaries, and answers) as needed to provide the Service. Shared public-media transcription is described below.
Your responsibilities for media and content
You represent and warrant that you have the right to enable AskAlong on the relevant pages and to process media segments you choose to capture or upload; that your use does not infringe copyrights, neighboring rights, privacy, publicity, trade secrets, or other rights; and that you will comply with the target site’s terms and applicable law.
You may not use the Service for unauthorized private-meeting or call recording/transcription, defeating DRM or access controls, processing content you are not entitled to handle, or any other infringement of others’ rights. You must decide whether a page is appropriate for capture.
If third-party claims arise from content you provide or direct us to process, you are responsible for resolving them to the extent permitted by law and for indemnifying us as set out below.
Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Service in unlawful, harmful, or abusive ways, including without limitation:
- Fraud, impersonation, network attacks, malware distribution, or interference with normal operation.
- Circumventing, probing, or defeating authentication, quotas, rate limits, CORS, payment validation, or gateway allowlists.
- Injecting malicious instructions or attempting prompt injection via media transcripts or inputs to cause unauthorized model behavior.
- Creating or distributing illegal, infringing, harassing, hateful, sexually exploitative, violently extreme, or deceptive content (including deceptive political audio/video), or concealing required AI-voice disclosures where law requires them.
- Cloning or imitating a natural person’s voice without lawful authorization, or presenting outputs as that person’s authentic speech.
- Using the Service for medical diagnosis/treatment decisions, legal representation, or investment trading instructions as if it were professional advice—the Service provides no such professional services.
- Reselling, time-sharing, or automating access far beyond normal personal use without authorization.
- Processing child sexual exploitation material or any other category we expressly prohibit.
We may investigate suspected abuse and apply rate limits, suspension, termination, or law-enforcement cooperation without additional liability to you, except where mandatory law requires otherwise.
AI output disclaimer
The Service uses machine-learning models (including Audio LLM, text LLM, ASR, and TTS) to generate text and speech automatically. Outputs may hallucinate, err, omit detail, lag, or be incomplete, and may not cover every point in the media.
Information from the Service is for general reference and learning assistance only. It is not medical, legal, financial, safety, or other professional advice, and does not replace your independent judgment of the original media. For important decisions, consult qualified professionals and verify primary sources.
Microphone questions with AI voice enabled use the Audio LLM path; text questions use the text model and may use TTS when voice playback is on. User ASR may run in parallel for captions and logs and is not guaranteed to be perfectly accurate. You understand that model providers, networks, and browser environments can interrupt or degrade quality.
Shared media transcription
To reduce latency and duplicate work, transcripts for the same public media and time range may be shared across users in de-identified form. Cache hits do not re-charge the corresponding media ASR allowance. Context assembly uses only content at or before the current position to avoid spoilers.
Shared transcription is a technical feature for product quality. It does not change your copyright obligations regarding original media, and does not mean we publish, host, or endorse that third-party media. We may remove, block, or delete shared data that is clearly unlawful or infringing.
Plans, allowances, subscriptions, and payment
We offer Free, Pro, and other plans. Allowances, prices, currency, trial length, and capabilities are defined by server-published product configuration and the live pricing/account UI. Clients must not invent or forge entitlements. Unreleased plans such as Creator cannot be activated through test flags or client parameters.
Paid plans such as Pro are typically monthly subscriptions and may include a free trial when shown. Payments are processed by providers such as Paddle. Entitlements activate only after verified server-side billing events update subscription state; a checkout success redirect alone does not grant Pro.
You may cancel or manage subscriptions through account billing entry points. If you cancel at period end, you generally retain access until the paid period ends, as shown by the billing provider and account status. Refunds, taxes, and invoices follow the payment provider’s policies and applicable law.
Allowance periods follow server subscription periods or, for Free users, server-defined calendar-month rules. After exhaustion, related features may be refused or degraded until reset or upgrade. We may correct clear metering errors without arbitrarily stripping lawfully active entitlements.
Third-party services and links
The Service integrates or depends on third parties including Firebase Authentication, Paddle, upstream model gateways/providers, cloud hosting and databases, and the media sites you visit. Those parties have their own terms and privacy policies, which govern your relationship with them.
We do not warrant third-party sites’ availability, lawfulness, or privacy practices. Disputes with third parties should be resolved with them; to the extent permitted by law, we are not jointly liable for their acts.
Privacy
Our handling of personal information is described in the Privacy Policy. By using the Service, you also understand the practices described there, including processing of microphone and tab media after you enable capture, and shared caching of public-media transcripts.
Changes, interruptions, and termination
We may improve, modify, suspend, or discontinue features, or change technical implementations (models, voice mapping, gateway policy), while using reasonable efforts to limit adverse impact. Free or experimental features may change without separate notice.
You may stop using the Service and request account deletion at any time. We may suspend or terminate for breach, legal requirements, sustained abuse, security risk, or discontinuation of the Service. Provisions that by nature should survive (including IP, disclaimers, liability limits, indemnity, and dispute resolution) remain in effect after termination.
Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, uninterrupted operation, error-free operation, or accuracy of results.
You understand that media capture, browser permissions, site technical limits, network failures, and outages of upstream model or payment services may make features unavailable. You should back up important information and independently verify critical facts.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from use or inability to use the Service, whether in contract, tort, or otherwise, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, our total liability for claims relating to the Service will not exceed the amounts you actually paid us for the relevant paid Service in the twelve (12) months before the event giving rise to the claim; if you use only Free, liability is limited to zero or the minimum required by law.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty limitations or exclusions of incidental/consequential damages. In those cases, our liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted by law.
Indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to hold the AskAlong product operator harmless from reasonable losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms, misuse of the Service, infringement of third-party rights, or media/content you process—except to the extent caused by willful misconduct or gross negligence on our part.
Export and compliance
You agree to comply with applicable export control, sanctions, and anti-money-laundering laws. You may not use the Service from restricted territories or as a restricted party, or for prohibited end uses.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. Updated versions will be posted on this page with a revised “Last updated” date. For material changes, we will provide reasonable notice. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance; if you disagree, stop using the Service and cancel subscriptions or request account deletion.
Governing law and disputes
These Terms are interpreted in light of the laws that reasonably connect to your use of the Service, together with any mandatory consumer protections that cannot be waived in your place of residence. Because AskAlong is currently a personally operated product, these Terms do not designate a corporate place of incorporation or a fixed commercial venue.
Disputes should first be raised in good faith through account channels on the website or contact methods published on product pages. If unresolved, either party may seek relief before a court or authority of competent jurisdiction under applicable law, without limiting non-waivable consumer rights you may have where you live.
General
- Entire agreement: These Terms, the Privacy Policy, and policies expressly incorporated form the entire agreement regarding the Service and supersede prior oral or written understandings (except separate written enterprise agreements).
- Severability: If a provision is unenforceable, the remainder continues in effect and should be modified to the minimum extent needed to be enforceable while preserving intent.
- Waiver: Failure to enforce a right is not a waiver of that right.
- Assignment: You may not assign rights or obligations under these Terms without our prior written consent; we may assign in connection with merger, acquisition, or asset transfer.
- No third-party beneficiaries: Except as expressly stated, non-parties obtain no enforceable rights under these Terms.
- Language: These Terms are provided in Chinese and English. If interpretations conflict, prefer the version that better reflects the parties’ commercial intent and the interface language you used when accepting, unless mandatory local law provides otherwise.
